Stitch Fix Womens August 2017 Clothing Subscription Box

Stitch Fix is a monthly clothing and styling subscription service. When you sign up you take a pretty in-depth survey about your sizes, your style, and pricing preferences. After choosing when you’d like to receive your delivery, your stylist handpicks 5 items based on your preferences. The fee for this service is $20, and that includes free shipping and free returns. And if you keep any of the items they send you, you get to deduct the $20 fee from the total. (If you keep all five items, you also get a 25% discount!)

This is my invoice sheet. It lists the prices per item and the discount I’d receive by keeping all 5 items. With the 25% discount and my $20 styling fee factored in, this box would cost me a total of $239.50 to keep everything – an average of $47.90 per item and a total discount of $116.50.

For anything you plan to return, Stitch Fix instructs you to complete a checkout process online so they know what to expect coming back, and it also allows you to provide feedback about the items. They include a USPS prepaid mailing bag in your box too. You just pack up the items you don’t want and drop the bag off at your post office. Last month, I left the bag for my mail carrier and they picked it up! So convenient!

Each box comes with cards with styling suggestions for every piece, plus a little note from your stylist. This is by far the most helpful piece of info in the box because it inspired outfits I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise! Jan styled my box again this month and she notes sending more “romantic-meets-edgy” pieces to try.

My first outfit combines one of the tops and the only pair of pants sent this month. Let’s take a closer look!

Hazel Yolandi Ruffle Overlay Blouse, size XS – Cost to keep: $58

When I opened this month’s box, I was immediately drawn to this top first! It’s truly gorgeous; made of a silky polyester, the soft grey has a slight sheen to it and is a pretty pastel I don’t have in my closet. The front asymmetrical ruffles are totally my style – I love any ruffle, especially if done in a unique way. The slight gathers at the neckline and sleeves hit the feminine styling nail on the head too! Unfortunately, this top runs extremely big. In fact, this top was sent in a size smaller than I typically wear, and I still feel like I’m swimming in it. Normally I don’t mind an oversized fit, but there’s something about the cut and the ruffle placement that makes this feel unflattering on. Bummer!

There is a back zipper that unzips at the neck to allow for easy try-on.

Liverpool Billy Distressed Released Hem Skinny Jean, size 4 – Cost to keep: $88

I’m really happy to see a different colored pair of denim this month. I’m a bit on the fence about white because I own a pair of white denim that I never wear. Current wardrobe aside, this particular pair is a great quality and well worth the price tag. Constructed of 98% cotton and 2% spandex, the denim is thick and soft, with a slight stretch that makes them comfortable on. I’m not super familiar with the Liverpool brand, but I’m digging the slight, but quality distressing on the front and unstitched/raw cropped hem.

Urban Expressions Torrey Zip Detail Satchel – Cost to keep: $68

This is a nice, roomy satchel! It’s made of textured faux leather that is a lovely shade of pink. I like how it is finished with black contrast and gold hardware too. There is numerous front, back, and interior pockets and I think this would make a perfect work bag, also thanks to the cross-body strap. It’s big enough to fit a laptop, along with cords, notebooks, wallet, phone, etc.

The bag is lined with a contrasting black/white pattern – super stylish!

Pixley Ryan Embroidered Cotton Dress, size S – Cost to keep: $64

I love embroidered flowers!! It takes a lot for me to try on a button down shirt since I don’t think they are the most flattering on me. But for those folk-inspired flowers, I will try this on! The chambray is super soft and relaxed and almost impossible to iron all the wrinkles out of. Despite loving the embroidery, I found the shirt to be a bit big on. I probably could tuck it in or layer underneath a dress to get a better look, but more than likely this piece would end up sitting in my closet. For $64, I can’t justify keeping it.

Statement Shaena Wrap Dress, size S – Cost to keep: $68

The last item this month is navy blue wrap dress made of soft 100% lyocell. It’s a nice length and I like that the spaghetti straps and waist tie are adjustable, but unfortunately, the fit was off. The top of the dress ended up feeling a bit big, so I decided to layer the button down underneath since I felt uncomfortable otherwise. I actually really like the combination here! But the fit issues are preventing me from keeping the dress too.

Here’s a closer look at the waist detail. There are ties that wrap around the dress and tie together through the silver grommet. The dress is super different than anything I own but also has an apron vibe to it.

Verdict: This month’s Stitch Fix box was overall pretty good and I’m glad Jan once again styled it! Not all of the pieces worked for me, but I understand and appreciate why each was sent and also like that everything was so interchangeable. The tops and details are definitely my style and would have been keepers if only they fit a bit better. I’m happy to again say that I’m looking forward to next month’s box.

All in all, the $20 monthly styling fee (which also includes free shipping and returns) is a low-risk way of shopping for clothes in the comfort of your home.
